Mathias Brandstötter is Deputy Director at Joanneum Research Robotics – Institute for Robotics and Mechatronics located in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee.
He started this activity after his PhD at the Institute for Automation and Control Technology at UMIT, where he dealt with the application of modular serial manipulators with general kinematic structure.
He gained industrial experience at BMW Steyr, among others, after studying mechanical engineering at the Graz University of Technology and specializing in mechatronics and in particular in robotics.
Lecture:
Machine Learning for Robotics – The role of AI in robotics
In contrast to conventional industrial robots, sensitive robot systems do not require protective fences for safety reasons since they react to occurring forces. In this way, human-robot-collaboration (HRC) can be realized.
This new technology brings robots much closer to humans, which in turn requires a number of other technologies and methods to make, e.g., a production process efficient and profitable.
An overview of the wide range of the facets of modern robots will be presented and the relevance of AI in the addressed aspects are highlighted.
